Danish rising star Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune clinched his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 18-year-old lifted the trophy of the €44,820 Thindown Biella Challenger 7 Outdoor held on clay at the Tennis Comunale in Biella, Italy. Rune battled past Marco Trungelliti of Argentina in Sunday’s singles final 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(5).

The #NextGenATP player fought his way through the bottom half of the draw by beating No. 3 seed Daniel Altmaier of Germany, Portuguese veteran Gastao Elias, Alexandre Muller from France and Argentine Tomas Etcheverry en-route to the championship match.

Rune came back from a break down in the decisive set against Trungelliti and converted five of his nine break-point chances to secure victory in three hours and two minutes, the longest final on the ATP Challenger Tour this year.

By celebrating his maiden Challenger triumph, Rune pocketed €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points. The teenager played all four Junior Grand Slam tournaments in 2019, crowned by winning the French Open at Roland Garros as well as the ITF Junior Masters in Chengdu, China. At senior’s level, Rune has captured five ITF World Tennis Tour titles.
