HAMBURG, June 17, 2021
World No. 12 Pablo Carreno Busta leads the entry list of the 2021 Hamburg European Open. The ATP 500 clay-court event will be held from July 12 to 18. After 2014, 2018 and 2019, the 29-year-old Spaniard will make his fourth appearance at the Rothenbaum Tennis Stadium.
Carreno Busta advanced to the semi-finals two years ago but fell to Andrey Rublev from Russia. The five-time champion on the ATP Tour will be joined by Canadian young gun Felix Auger-Aliassime, who reached the final of last week’s MercedesCup in Stuttgart and knocked out Roger Federer in the second round of the Noventi Open in Halle to continue his fine run of form on grass.
Aslan Karatsev of Russia, Italian Lorenzo Sonego and two-time Hamburg European Open winner Nikoloz Basilashvili round out the Top 30.

“Despite the difficult circumstances with the date between Wimbledon and the Olympics, we have many top players this year around the young and charismatic Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, who will ensure world-class tennis,” tournament director Sandra Reichel said.
“I’m particularly looking forward to ‘Struffi’, who caused upsets with victories over Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev this year, as well as to Aslan Karatsev, who celebrated his breakthrough tournament at the Australian Open and whose aggressive game impressed me very much.”
