Rune Survives Cachin To Reach Milan Semi-Finals

The top two seeds of the €44,820 Aspria Tennis Cup, the lone ATP Challenger Tour tournament this week, will lead the semi-finals line-up. No. 1 seed Federico Coria of Argentina eased past Portuguese veteran and fifth favourite Gastao Elias 6-2, 6-0 on Friday afternoon on the clay courts of the Aspria Harbour Club in Milan, Italy.

Coria won 90 per cent of his second-service points and 69 per cent of the total points played to advance after one hour and four minutes.

The World No. 89 from Buenos Aires will next take on Frenchman Hugo Grenier, who beat Pedja Krstin from Serbia 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 39 minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, No. 2 seed Holger Rune rallied past Argentine Pedro Cachin 0-6, 7-6(3), 7-6(8). The 18-year-old from Denmark withstood nine aces from his opponent and saved four match points in the tie-break of the final set to prevail after two hours and 20 minutes.

Rune will play Italian wild card entry and No. 8 seed Gian Marco Moroni, who ended the run of Croatian qualifier Duje Ajdukovic 6-3, 7-5 after two hours and one minute.

“For a couple of games we had a some tough rallies,” Moroni said. “Physically I feel good thanks to the excellent work with my trainers and physiotherapists.” 

In Saturdays doubles final, Dustin Brown of Germany and Tristan-Samuel Weissborn from Austria will face the all-Czech tandem of Vit Korpiva and Jiri Lehecka.
