Federico Arnaboldi capped his dream week on home soil by winning his first title on the Pro Circuit at the Trofeo Azimut, held on clay at the Tennis Club Citta dei Mille in Bergamo.

The 21-year-old Italian battled through the qualifying and continued his good run of form in the main draw by beating his No. 7 seeded compatriot Riccardo Balzerani 6-1, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final of the ITF World Tennis Tour M15 clay-court event.

Earlier in the week, Arnaboldi had defeated fellow qualifiers Andrea Basso and Francesco Vilardo from Italy, Marvin Netuschil of Germany as well as local wild card entry Matteo Arnaldi en route to his second championship match after finishing runner-up to Ben Patael in Heraklion, Greece last month.

The World No. 694 from Como, who celebrated his birthday on June 18, capitalized on six of his 15 break point chances in the final to secure victory in one hour and 29 minutes.

“I have to congratulate Federico,” said Balzerani, who was seeking his third career title on the Pro Circuit following his triumphs in Italy in Pontedera in 2018 and Bolzano 2019. “Every time I was trying to do something more, he raised his level even more. I didn’t play very well, but he didn’t give me a chance today.”
