Emilio Gomez from Ecuador, last seeded player standing at the Porto Open, advanced to the semi-finals of the €44,820 ATP Challenger hard-court event hosted by the Complexo Desportivo Monte Aventino in Porto, Portugal.
The World No. 169 and third favourite of the tournament edged out local wild card entry Gastao Elias 6-3, 7-6(4) on Friday afternoon. Gomez converted four of his 10 break-point chances to seal victory in one hour and 48 minutes.

“It was a very tough match but I am very happy with my performance today,” Gomez said. “Now I will go point by point and trying to reach the final here.”
The 29-year-old Guayaquil native, who captured his second Challenger title on home soil in Salinas in early May, will next take on Frenchman Quentin Halys, who eased past Steven Diez of Canada 6-3, 6-0. The encounter lasted 61 minutes.
Stakhovsky to face Celikbilek
In the top half of the draw, Sergiy Stakhovsky fired 19 aces during his 7-6(2), 7-6(5) win over Portuguese wild card entry Goncalo Oliveira. The 35-year-old from the Ukraine won 75 per cent of his first-service points and 53 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and four minutes.
Stakhovsky will next face Altug Celikbilek of Turkey. The 24-year-old Antalya native beat Tatsuma Ito from Japan 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 36 minutes.
In the doubles final, Renzo Olivo from Argentina and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela of Mexico will take on the all-Argentine combination of Guido Andreozzi and Guillermo Duran. Saturday’s action will kick off at 11 am local time.
