BAKU, February 14, 2016
Mikelis Libietis claimed the title at the last of three $10,000 ITF Future tournaments taking place in Baku. The 23-year-old Lithuanian defeated Timur Khabibulin in Sunday’s final 6-3, 6-2. Libietis needed exactly one hour of play to seal victory, hitting 14 aces.
It is the third career title on the ITF Pro Circuit after the world number 686 had lifted the trophies on home soil in 2015 and in Estonia in 2013. Libietis had a difficult start into the season, playing the entire indoor swing in Azerbaijan but lost in the opening round in both of the previous two tournaments.
Artur Dubinski from Belarus captured the first title and Russian Victor Baluda emerged victorious from the second week. Libietis is taking away $1,440 in prize money as well as 18 ATP ranking points.
