BASTAD, July 18, 2021

Casper Ruud of Norway captured his third ATP Tour career title by winning the Nordea Open in Bastad, Sweden. The top seed of the ATP 250 clay-court event defeated Argentine Federico Coria 6-3, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final.

Ruud converted five of his eight break-point opportunities to seal victory in one hour and 26 minutes.

“The Ruud family can finally bring the trophy home to Norway. It is a special feeling having him here with me,” Casper said during his on-court interview 26 years after his father finished as runner-up in Bastad. 

“It was an incredible week, maybe the best week of my life. It is an incredible feeling playing here in Bastad with the Swedish, Norwegian and Danish support. There is nothing like that home crowd feeling. To win here means a lot.”

Ruud earned €41,145 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points. The 22-year-old from Oslo has risen to 10th place in the ATP Race To Turin. Ruud now has 1,770 points, just 15 behind ninth-placed Aslan Karatsev of Russia.

Arends/Pel prevail in doubles

Earlier in the day, Sander Arends and David Pel took their first team title. The all-Dutch combination edged past Andre Begemann of Germany and Frenchman Albano Olivetti 6-4, 6-2 in the doubles final, which lasted 65 minutes.
