Cameron Norrie of Great Britain won his first ATP Tour singles title on Saturday evening when he defeated #NextGenATP US-American Brandon Nakashima 6-2, 6-2 to triumph at the Mifel Open held at the Cabo Sports Complex in Los Cabos, Mexico.
The top seed of the ATP 250 hard-court tournament, who did not lose a set en route to the trophy, capitalized on five of his eight break-point chances to secure victory in one hour and 23 minutes.

“I feel very happy. I couldn’t be more proud of myself, proud of my team and how I handled the week. I am happy how I improved every match. I used my experience a little bit today and I think it showed in the match,” said Norrie, who had lost his first four tour-level finals, including three earlier this year.
“I think it’s a huge bonus. It was always a goal of mine to get my first title. Obviously I’d lost three finals this year, so it was very nice to get over the line today. I’m going to enjoy it tonight and then [go] straight back to work.”
The 25-year-old lefty earned $58,705 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points.
“I think I played very solid throughout the whole week. I improved, I think my returns were very, very solid this week. It’s obviously a big step for me to get my first title, so I couldn’t be happier,” Norrie said. “I’m happy with my level and how I handled the situation, especially coming in as the No. 1 seed. It’s not easy to be the favourite.
“I went out there and took care of business when I needed to.”
Hach Verdugo/Isner take doubles title
In other action, home favourite Hans Hach Verdugo and US-American John Isner made a perfect team debut, as they defeated Hunter Reese from the United States and Dutchman Sem Verbeek 5-7, 6-2, 10-4 to win the doubles title. Hach Verdugo and Isner live three doors apart in Dallas, Texas and are good friends.
“It’s fun to play with somebody who you know. Sometimes us doubles guys, we switch different partners,” Hach Verdugo said. “But when you play with somebody who you know, somebody who is easygoing, it’s just very fun and enjoyable and I think that’s when you play your best.”
The pair split $21,920 in prize money and collected 250 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
“I think the partnership worked very well because we’re very good friends. Both of us on court are very easygoing. Neither one of us put pressure on each other and on top of that, I think our games complement each other very well,” Isner said. “Of course my serve is pretty good and Hans has fantastic returns, and especially today. He was the best player on the court of all four players and I was lucky to have him on my team, so it worked out.”
