World No. 124 Daniel Altmaier opened his title bid at the Rhein Asset Open presented by B&B Hotels with a straight-set win on Tuesday afternoon. The top seed of the €44,820 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court tournament hosted by the Teremeer Sport and Tennis Resort in Meerbusch, Germany defeated Alejandro Tabilo from Chile 6-0, 7-5.
Altmaier, who clinched his maiden Challenger trophy on home soil at the Sparkassen Open in Braunschweig, Germany last month followed by back-to-back semi-final runs at the ATP 250 events in Umag, Croatia and Kitzbühel, Austria capitalized on five of his 10 break-point chances to advance after one hour and 11 minutes.

The 22-year-old German will next take on Vit Kopriva. The 24-year-old Czech defeated lucky loser Norman Fatic from Bosnia and Herzegovina 7-5, 6-2 after one hour and 38 minutes.
In the bottom half of the draw, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Damir Dzumhur also booked his spot in the second round. The No. 2 seed edged past Belgian veteran Ruben Bemelmans 6-3, 6-3. Dzumhur broke his opponent’s serve four times to prevail after one hour and 10 minutes. Up next for the World No. 123 will be Filip Horansky. The 28-year-old from Slovakia beat Andrea Collarini of Argentina 6-4, 6-2. The encounter lasted one hour and 41 minutes.
In other action, No. 3 seed Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands fought past Roberto Cid Subervi from the Dominican Republic 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(4), fourth favourite Oscar Otte from Germany knocked off local wild card entry Mats Rosenkranz 6-4, 6-4 and No. 5 seed Juan Manuel Cerundolo from Argentina rallied past Belgian Kimmer Coppejans 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the second round.
