Filip Horansky caused the upset of the day at the Rhein Asset Open presented by B&B Hotels by knocking out No. 2 seed Damir Dzumhur from Bosnia and Herzegovina 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
The World No. 248 from Slovakia sent down three aces and won 74 per cent of his first-service points to advance after two hours and 10 minutes. Horansky, who lifted the trophy here in Meerbusch, Germany three years ago, will next take on Juan Manuel Cerundolo. The fifth seed from Argentina defeated local favourite Maximilian Marterer 6-4, 7-6(3) after one hour and 54 minutes.
In other action, Botic van de Zandschulp edged past Frenchman Constant Lestienne 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. The No. 3 seed from the Netherlands capitalized on six of his 14 break-point chances to secure victory in one hour and 55 minutes. Up next for van de Zandschulp will be Lukas Klein. The 23-year-old Slovakian battled past Croatian qualifier Duje Ajdukovic 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and 56 minutes.
