MEERBUSCH, August 14, 2021
Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera and Juan Manuel Cerundolo will compete in an all-South American singles final at the Rhein Asset Open presented by B&B Hotels in Meerbusch, Germany.
Barrios Vera, who knocked out top seed Daniel Altmaier in the stage of the last eight at the €44,820 ATP Challenger clay-court event, continued his fine run of form against Dutch veteran Robin Haase on a sunny Saturday afternoon in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The 23-year-old from Chile capitalized on all of his five break-point chances to secure a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory in one hour and 52 minutes. Barrios Vera will appear in his third title match of the season after he finished runner-up on home soil in Santiago and Almaty, Kazakhstan earlier this season.

Cerundolo defeated No. 3 seed Botic van den Zandschulp 7-5, 6-4. The fifth seed from Argentina outpointed his rival 73-64 after one hour and 31 minutes. Nineteen-year-old Cerundolo captured his maiden ATP Tour trophy at the Cordoba Open in February and also claimed his first Challenger title in Rome three months later.
Barrios Vera and Cerundolo will meet for the first time. After seven title wins on the ITF Pro Circuit, the World No. 241 from Santiago is seeking his first triumph at Challenger level. World No. 148 Cerundolo could lift his second trophy.
Walkow/Zielinski take doubles title
Later in the afternoon at the Teremeer Sport and Tennis Resort, Szymon Walkow and Jan Zielinski of Poland triumphed in doubles. The all-Polish combination eased past No. 4 seeds Dustin Brown of Germany and Robin Haase 6-3, 6-1 in the championship match. The encounter lasted 51 minutes.
By winning their third team title of the season after Split, Croatia and Braunschweig, Germany, Walkow and Zielinski split €2,670 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
