Only three matches were played on Monday before persistent rain forced the organizers to abandon play during the remaining encounter in the final round of the qualifying at the inaugural Platzmann-Sauerland Open. The €44,820 ATP Challenger clay-court tournament is being held this week at the LTV 1899 in Lüdenscheid, Germany.
Javier Barranco Cosano defeated 20-year-old Czech and former junior World No. 1 Jonas Forejtek 6-1, 7-6(2). The World No. 332 from Spain won 78 per cent of his first-service points and 58 per cent of the total points played to secure a spot in the main draw after one hour and 25 minutes.
Matteo Martineau eased past Dayne Kelly from Australia 6-2, 6-3. The 22-year-old Frenchman saved the only break point he faced and capitalized on five of his own 10 break-point chances to secure victory in one hour and 16 minutes.
Genaro Alberto Olivieri also advanced to the main draw following a 6-1, 6-2 win over Russian alternate Bogdan Bobrov. The World No. 368 from Argentina outpointed his opponent 53-33 after 63 minutes.

In the last qualifying match, Nick Hardt from the Dominican Republic faced Romanian teenager Filip Cristian Jianu. The latter was leading 6-3, 1-6, 4-2 before the match was suspended and postponed to Tuesday.
Andujar leads the Sauerland Open field
The field in Lüdenscheid is led by three Top 100 players from Spain. World No. 74 and top seed Pablo Andujar, who is seeking his 12th ATP Challenger career crown, will face Mirza Basic from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first round. Second seed Pedro Martinez, who recently played his first ATP Tour championship match at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel, will open his title bid against Camil Ugo Carabelli from Argentina. No. 3 seed Roberto Carballes Baena will start against Argentine alternate Nicolas Kicker.
The tournament’s No. 4 is Daniel Altmaier. The 22-year-old in-form German, who captured his maiden Challenger title on home soil in Braunschweig last month, will begin his home campaign against a qualifier.
