Copa Sevilla To Be Held In Early September

Copa Sevilla 2021 ATP Challenger

SEVILLA/STARNBERG, August 27, 2021

Sevilla will be the place to be in early September when the 58th edition of the Copa Sevilla will be held in the capital city of Andalusia. Three Top 100 players will headline the ATP Challenger Tour 90 tournament hosted by the Real Club de Tenis Betis from September 5 to 11.

World No. 72 Pablo Andujar leads the entry list. The 35-year-old Spaniard, a winner of four ATP Tour singles titles, will bid for his 12th trophy on the Challenger Circuit. Andujar will be joined by his compatriots World No. 73 Pedro Martinez and World No. 95 Roberto Carballes Baena. Local favourites Carlos Taberner and Bernabe Zapata Miralles round out the Top 5 entries.

British teenager Jack Draper and #NextGenATP Spaniard Nicola Kuhn will represent the youngsters in Sevilla. Nineteen-year-old Draper has captured seven titles on the ITF World Tennis Tour. Kuhn is seeking his first triumph since his title win at the Segovia Challenger in El Espinar two years ago.

In 1991, the Copa Sevilla kicked off an era of ATP Challenger Tour tennis. Three decades later, the historic event in southern Spain is still going strong.

Held on the unique yellow clay, it celebrated back-to-back 17-year-old champions Casper Ruud (2016) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (2017). Kimmer Coppejans took the title in 2018 and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina clinched the trophy in 2019. Last year’s edition had to be cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
