Camilo Ugo Carabelli capped his dream week at the €44,820 BNP Paribas Polish Cup by winning his first ATP Challenger crown. In a singles final between two unseeded players on Sunday afternoon, the 22-year-old Argentine defeated Croatia’s Nino Serdarusic 6-4, 6-2 on Center Court of the Legia Tenis & Golf in Warsaw.

Carabelli, who appeared his first championship match at Challenger level, withstood five aces from his opponent and broke Serdarusic’s serve four times to prevail after one hour and 32 minutes.

“It was a close match. I was a bit nervous but I played very well and that’s why I won,” Carabelli said. “It has been a step forward and I am very happy. Thank you very much to all the people who were involved in the organization and to my team.”

Following four triumphs on the ITF Pro Circuit, the World No. 296 from Buenos Aires lifted his maiden Challenger trophy. Carabelli earned €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

“I am glad that so many people came to the courts of Legia Warsaw to watch the most important matches,” tournament director Mariusz Fyrstenberg said.

“With Piotrek Matuszewski we had a Polish player in the doubles final. I know him and know that he deserves a higher place in the ranking, and this tournament will definitely help him with that. The single was at a very high level, there was a lot to watch, I even counted on three sets. Carabelli was emotional after the victory, it was the first title in his career, and for us as organizers it was very nice. I would like to thank everyone for the commitment and work, in particular to the sponsors, partners and authorities of the city.”
