Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi clinched a tour-leading fourth ATP Challenger title of the season by lifting the trophy of the Saint-Tropez Open. The top seed of the €44,820 hard-court event held at the Tennis Club de Saint Tropez in Southern France benefited from the retirement of second seed Christopher O’Connell from Australia in Sunday’s singles final.

Bonzi eliminated his compatriots Mathias Bourgue, Kyrien Jacquet, Enzo Couacaud and Huge Grenier en route to the championship match. The World No. 94 had lost the opening set in the tie-break 8-10 and took the second set 6-1 when O’Connell was forced to stop playing due to an adductors injury.

Following his triumphs in Potchefstroom, South Africa, at the Ostrava Open in the Czech Republic and at the Open Castilla y Leon in El Espinar, Spain, Bonzi has become the match-win leader of the 2021 Challenger Circuit with 39 victories. The 25-year-old earned his fourth ATP Challenger career title.

Bonzi collected €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points and is projected to crack the Top 90 for the first time.
