RENNES, September 9, 2021
Organizers of the Open Blot Rennes announced on Wednesday that former World No. 1 Andy Murray accepted a wild card into the main draw of the ATP Challenger Tour tournament to be held from September 13 to 19 at the Le Liberté Arena in Rennes, France.
The 34-year-old Briton, currently ranked World No. 112, will return to the Challenger Circuit for the first time since finishing runner-up to Illya Marchenko in Biella, Italy in February. In Brittany, Murray will again face strong competition led by World No. 79 Richard Gasquet. The 35-year-old Frenchman will be joined by his compatriots Arthur Rinderknech, Benjamin Bonzi and Gilles Simon.
“We are very happy with this last minute surprise, fulfilled under the leadership of our sporting director Nicolas Mahut. This is an exceptional opportunity to have one of the greats of the sport here. More than ever, we would like to thank our partners who have remained loyal after 14 months of uncertainty, in particular the City of Rennes, and the Blot group,” tournament director Matthieu Blesteau said.

In January last year, the Open Blot Rennes was one of the last events held before the suspension of the tour due to the coroavirus outbreak. Local favourite Arthur Rinderknech clinched his maiden Challenger trophy in front of packed stands and in an electrifying atmosphere. More than 27,000 people attended the matches throughout the week.
