Seventeen-year-old Robin Montgomery from Washington, D.C. won the 2021 US Open girls’ singles title on Saturday, defeating Kristina Dmitruk of Belarus, 6-2, 6-4. She became the first US-American to win the girls’ singles title since Amanda Anisimova defeated her compatriot Coco Gauff in 2017.

Montgomery took the court later in the day and, alongside partner Ashlyn Krueger (17, Highland Village, Texas) also won the girls’ doubles title in an all-US-American final, defeating Reese Brantmeier (16; Whitewater, Wis.) and Elvina Kalieva (18; Staten Island, N.Y.), 5-7, 6-4 [10-4].

“To be honest, when I came [to the tournament] I was just trying to make it past the second round,” Montgomery said in a news conference. “I wasn’t picturing getting both, but here I am. Hopefully, I can take it to the next level.”

Montgomery became the first player to sweep both the girls’ singles and doubles titles since Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands in 2004 and the first US-American to accomplish the feat since Lindsay Davenport in 1992.
