BRAGA, September 16, 2021
The ATP Challenger Tour will return to Portugal next for the third edition of the Braga Open. The €44,820 clay-court tournament will be held in front of spectators from September 19 to 26 at the Clube de Ténis de Braga.
The field is led by World No. 92 Thiago Monteiro from Brasil, the lone Top 100 player in the main draw. The 27-year-old will bid for his sixth Challenger career crown, his first since lifting the trophy in Punta del Este, Uruguay in early February last year. Taro Daniel of Japan, Frenchman Hugo Gaston and Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry will also be part of the line-up.
Portuguese players Frederico Silva (World No. 184) and Gastao Elias (World No. 215) are joined by 2019 champion Joao Domingues (World No. 242) and Nuno Borges (World No. 271) representing the four local favourites, who managed to have direct entry into the main draw. Their compatriots Tiago Cacao (World No. 506) and Pedro Araújo (World No. 902) were both awarded a wild card on Wednesday.
