Returning champions continue their advance to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Tire Championships, being hosted by Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.
US-American Denis Kudla, champion of the 2020 ATP Challenger Tour tournament, outlasted his compatriot and former collegiate player Aleksandar Kovacevic, 6-7(2), 6-2, 6-3. The defending champion from the event held in July of this year, Mitchell Krueger from the United States defeated Dayne Kelly of Australia 6-4, 6-4.
Australians Aleksandar Vukic and Max Purcell secured spots into the quarterfinals. Vukic did so by knocking out the third seed of the tournament, Salvatore Caruso from Italy, 6-2, 6-4 and Max Purcell with a straight set win over US-American JC Aragone, 6-2, 6-2.
Doubles action continues
The evening crowd was treated to solid doubles play from William Blumberg from the United States and Canadian Max Schnur in an upset of the top seeds Lloyd Glasspool of Great Britain and US-American Nicholas Monroe 6-2, 7-5.
Earlier in the day, Australians Alex Bolt and Rinky Hijikata battled the No. 2 seeded tandem of Evan King and Jackson Withrow from the United States in a heavily contested match going the distance, 7-6(7), 6-7, (5), 12-10.
The tournament resumes Thursday with quarterfinal action starting at 1:00 pm (local time) at the Cary Tennis Park.
