Elina Svitolina leads the entry list of the inaugural Tenerife Ladies Open to be held at the Abama Tennis Academy from October 18 to 24, 2021. This was announced by MEF Tennis Events, organizers of the WTA Tour 250 hard-court tournament, on Thursday.
The World No. 4 from the Ukraine is seeking her second title of the season after her triumph at the WTA 250 in Chicago in late August. Svitolina will be joined by US-American Alison Riske, recent finalist at the Zavarovalnica Sava Portoroz, and Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia, semi-finalist at this year’s Roland Garros.
Sara Sorribes Tormo is the lone Spaniard on the entry list. The 24-year-old from Castellón knocked out World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty in the opening round of the Tokyo Olympic Games. Reigning Montreal champion Camila Giorgi, Jasmine Paolini, winner in Portoroz, and Martina Trevisan, winner of the $80,000 ITF World Tennis Tour tournament in Valencia, as well as Clara Tauson, Marta Kostyuk and Maria Camila Osorio Serrano will also be part of the line-up.

“After the success of the two Challengers in Gran Canaria at the beginning of the season, our collaboration with the Canary Islands continues. We knew that we could organize a Challenger in Tenerife, then the WTA, thanks to the excellent tournament held in May in Parma, offered us the chance of an additional tournament. We appreciate support of the Guia de Isora City Council, as well as the property where the Tennis Club is located, Las Terrazas de Abama. The support of the institutions is essential for our events,” organizer Marcello Marchesini said.
