JOHANNESBURG, September 23, 2021 (Tennis South Africa Press Release)

Rising South African tennis stars, Khololwam Montsi and Alec Beckley have both reached their maiden ITF $25,000 World Tennis Tour quarterfinal round at the SA Spring Open on Thursday.

Eighteen-year-old Montsi defeated Markos Kalovelonis of Greece 6-1, 6-3 to secure his spot in the last eight stage.

“It means a lot to me to be in my first $25K feature event quarterfinals, especially back home in South Africa,” said Montsi.

“Now I just have to recover. I have to study my opponent and go through my patterns, things that I have to do with my coach, and just prepare myself as much as possible.”

Montsi will next face last week’s Jozi Open champion Alastair Gray of Britain for a place in the semi-final round.

World No. 2,099 Beckley continued his impressive run with victory over Menelaos Efstashiou. Beckley, who stunned top seed Konstantin Kravchuk on Wednesday, defeated the Cypriot 7-6(5), 6-4 to advance.

The 20-year-old will go up against Brazilian sixth-seed Mateus Alves in the quarterfinal round.
