HOUSTON, September 30, 2021 (Press Release)
American Sam Querrey is set to make his 12th appearance at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship April 2-10, 2022 at River Oaks Country Club.
Querrey, who has accumulated 17 career wins in Houston to lead active players, will be tied with fellow American James Blake for the second-most tournament appearances in the Open Era. Querrey partnered with Blake in 2012 to win the doubles title in Houston.
The 33-year-old earned a spot in the semifinals in his last appearance in Houston, the best finish by an American in 2019. Querrey has reached the quarterfinals or better in five of his last six appearances in Houston, reaching the title match in 2010 and 2015.
Turning professional in 2006, Querrey obtained a career-high ranking of No. 11 in 2018 and has captured 10 ATP Tour singles titles.
At Major tournaments, Querrey reached the 2017 Wimbledon semifinals after knocking off World No. 1 Andy Murray. The victory over Murray allowed Querrey to become the first American man to reach the final four of a Major in eight years.
Querrey’s memorable season continued less than two months after Wimbledon, securing a career-best finish at the US Open when he clinched his place in the quarterfinals in 2017. He stands with 2013 Houston champion John Isner as one of only two Americans to reach the US Open’s elite eight in the 2010s era.
In just his second season on the ATP Tour, Querrey set an Open Era record when he hit 10 consecutive aces en route to claim his first top 10 win at the 2007 Indianapolis Tennis Championships.
