Travaglia To Face Kokkinakis In Sibiu Open Final

Top seed Stefano Travaglia and No. 7 seed Thanasi Kokkinakis will compete in Sunday’s championship match of the €44,820 Sibiu Open. Travaglia emerged victorious from a topsy-turvy semi-final encounter with eighth seed Sumit Nagal of India, winning 6-4, 0-6, 6-0 on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Sibiu, Romania.

The World No. 97 from Italy hit five aces, broke Nagal’s serve five times and eventually outpointed his rival 74-71 after one hour and 41 minutes.

Earlier in the day, Kokkinakis remained untroubled during his 6-2, 6-1 victory over No. 6 seed Marc-Andrea Huesler from Switzerland. The 25-year-old Australian struck five aces and won all of his 16 first-service points to advance after only 57 minutes.

Kokkinakis his seeking his second ATP Challenger title of the season following his triumph in Biella, Italy in May. Travaglia could clinch his sixth career trophy, his first since Sopot, Poland in early August 2019. The pair will meet for the first time.

Erler/Miedler triumph in doubles

In other action, Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler captured the doubles title. The second-seeded Austrians defeated top favourites James Cerretani from the United States and Luca Margaroli of Switzerland 6-3, 6-1 in exactly one hour of play.

After their maiden triumph on the ATP Tour on home soil at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel, Erler and Miedler claimed their second team title. They split €2,670 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
