No. 3 seed Juan Pablo Varillas and No. 5 seed Sebastian Baez are the finalists of the $52,080 Dove Men & Care Legión Sudamericana Challenger Santiago 2 ATP Challenger clay-court event in Chile.
Varillas battled past second-seeded Argentine Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 6-7(8), 6-3 on semi-final Saturday at the at the Club Deportivo Palestino. The World No. 127 from Peru capitalized on six of his 12 break point chances and won 55 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in two hours and 38 minutes.
Earlier in the day, Baez defeated Santiago de Chile native Nicolas Jarry 6-4, 6-4. The World No. 140 from Argentina withstood four aces and broke Jarry’s serve two times to prevail after one hour and 25 minutes.

Varillas aims to win his fourth ATP Challenger career title, his second of the season following his triumph at the Thindown Challenger in Biella, Italy in early May.
Baez leads the pair’s head-to-head record 3-1. The last meeting between the two was won by Varillas in the second round of the qualifying at the Hamburg European Open in July. Baez will try to continue his successful run this season by lifting his fourth trophy. The 20-year-old Buenos Aires native emerged victorious on Chilean soil in Concepcion and Santiago as well as in Zagreb, Croatia.
Hidalgo/Jarry earn doubles title
In other action, Diego Hidalgo from Ecuador and home favourite Nicolas Jarry claimed the doubles title. The unseeded South American duo fought past Evan King and Max Schnur from the United States 6-3, 5-7, 10-6. The final lasted one hour and 33 minutes.
By winning their first Challenger team title, Hidalgo and Jarry split $3,100 and pocketed 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
