ISMANING, October 31, 2021
Oscar Otte has crowned his remarkable season by winning the title of the Wolffkran Open. The No. 5 seed of the €44,820 ATP Challenger Tour carpet tournament, held at the Tennis Club Ismaning, defeated 2019 champion Lukas Lacko from Slovakia 6-4, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.
Otte was rock solid on his serve, fired 11 aces and won 91 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and eight minutes.
“I got off to a great start in the match and felt very comfortable when I served,” said Otte. “I had a lot of free points and only few close games on my own serve. So I was able to act more freely during his service games and then some balls flew in that would otherwise supposedly go out. I always stayed focused because a match like this can get tight again very quickly on the carpet.”
Following his run to the third round at Roland Garros and to the fourth round at the US Open, the World No. 135 captured his first title of the year.
“It’s always nice to play in Germany and of course to win here, too. It was a great week , everything was well organized and I played very good tennis,” Otte added.
The Cologne native lifted his third Challenger career trophy, his first since the Open Pays d’Aix in September last year. Otte pocketed €6,190 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Ranking points.
