Top-seed Yuichi Sugita captured the title of the $50,000 Shimadzu All Japan Indoor Championships in Kyoto on Sunday. The 27-year-old Japanese defeated Ze Zhang 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Sugita withstood 12 aces, hitting eight of his own and converted two of his four break point chances to finish the final after one hour and 40 minutes.
He won his sixth ATP Challenger title, his second in Kyoto after 2010. Sugita takes away $7,200 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points, rising to a career high number 99.
Mao-Xin Gong and Chu-Huan Yi captured the doubles title, winning 6-3, 7-6 over Go Soeda and Yasutaka Uchiyama in one hour and 14 minutes.
