Masur Reaches Challenger Eckental Semi-Finals

Daniel Masur is still flying the German flag on home soil at the €44,820 Challenger Eckental, being held on carpet at the House of Sports. The World No. 241 from Munich was in cruise mode on Friday, easing past Ramkumar Ramanathan of India 6-3, 6-3.

Masur struck seven aces, saved both break points he faced and capitalized on three of his own four break-point chances to advance to the semi-finals after only 58 minutes.

The 26-year-old, who had lost all of his last eight opening matches at Challenger level before coming to Eckental, will appear in the stage of the final four for the first time since winning the title in Biella, Italy in March.

Up next for Masur will be Marc-Andrea Huesler from Switzerland. The World No. 186 knocked out top seed Jordan Thompson of Australia 6-3, 6-1. Huesler won 62 per cent of the total points played to prevail after 56 minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, Maxime Cressy edged out second-seeded Czech Jiri Vesely 7-6(0), 7-6(3). The No. 6 seed from the United States fired 24 aces and won 86 per cent of his first-service points to seal victory in one hour and 34 minutes.

Cressy will next take on 21-year-old Tomas Machac from the Czech Republic. The fifth seed won the battle of the youngsters, beating Swiss teenager Dominic Stricker 6-4, 6-4 after 69 minutes.
