Top-seed Paul-Henri Mathieu headlined Thursday’s second round action at the €42,500 Open BNP Paribas Banque De Bretagne in Quimper.
The world number 69 from France fought back to overcome Aldin Setkic 2-6, 7-6, 6-3. Mathieu was a set and a break down before he turned the match around, sending down 16 aces and winning 75% of his first service points to seal victory in one hour and 50 minutes. The 34-year-old will take on Igor Sijsling next, who beat Farrukh Dustov 6-1, 6-4 in 65 minutes.
The tournament’s number two Sergiy Stakhovsky fired 22 aces to secure a 6-4, 7-6 victory over French qualifier Alexandre Sidorenko. The world number 114 from the Ukraine saved all seven break points he faced, converting one of his own to prevail in one hour and 23 minutes. Stakhovsky will face French qualifier Romain Jouan next, who defeated James Ward 6-4, 6-4 after 63 minutes.
