CAMPINAS/STARNBERG, November 16, 2021

The ATP Challenger Tour is back in Brazil for the 11th edition of the Campeonato Internacional de Tenis. The clay-court tournament is being held at the Sociedade Hípica de Campinas, situated in the state of Sao Paulo in the Southeast Region of the country.

The top half of the main draw was in first-round action on Monday. Nicola Kuhn knocked out No. 6 seed Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia 7-5, 6-3. The 21-year-old German converted six of his 16 break-point chances to secure victory in one hour and 45 minutes.

Up next for Kuhn will be Tomas Martin Etcheverry. The World No. 22 from Argentina eased past Roberto Cid Subervi 6-2, 6-0 in one hour and 31 minutes.

Camilo Ugo Carabelli from Argentina benefited from the retirement of home favourite Thiago Seyboth Wild. Carabelli, runner-up at the Challenger in Lima in early October, was leading 7-6(4), 3-1 when the 21-year-old Brazilian was forced to stop playing due to cramps. The 22-year-old Buenos Aires native will next play either top seed Federico Coria from Argentina or Chilean Nicolas Jarry.

In other action, Juan Pablo Varillas from Peru defeated local wild card entry Matheus Bueres 6-2, 6-1 and awaits the winner of the encounter between No. 4 seed Thiago Monteiro of Brazil or Swiss qualifier Johan Nikles.

Timofey Skatov of Kazakhstan beat Argentine Renzo Olivo 6-3, 7-6(3) and will next face either Andrea Collarini of Argentina of fifth-seeded Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas.
