More than four years after capturing his 16th career title on the ITF Pro Circuit in Singapore, Ramkumar Ramanathan of India claimed his first singles trophy at Challenger level. The 27-year-old Chennai native won the inaugural edition of the Bahrain Ministry Of Interior Tennis Challenger hosted by the Public Security Officers Club in Manama.
Ramanathan, No. 6 seed of the only ATP Challenger Tour event held in the Gulf country, defeated unseeded Russian Evgeny Karlovskiy 6-1, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final. The World No. 222 fired 14 aces, saved the only break point he faced and won 77 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and one minute.

Ramanathan battled through the top half of the draw, beating Ukrainian qualifier Vladyslav Orlov, Croatian Duje Ajdukovic, Goncalo Oliveira of Portugal and No. 7-seeded Briton Jay Clarke en route to the championship match.
Ramanathan, a winner of six ATP Challenger doubles titles, pocketed $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
Borges/Cabral take doubles title
On Saturday, Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral took the doubles title. The all-Portuguese tandem battled past Maximilian Neuchrist of Austria and Michail Pervolarakis from Greece 7-5, 6-7(5), 10-8. The final lasted one hour and 41 minutes.
Borges and Cabral captured their fourth team title on the ATP Challenger Tour this season following their triumphs on home soil in Oeiras and Braga, as well as on the Canary Islands in Tenerife. They split $3,100 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
