Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves advanced to the quarterfinals of the Dove Men & Care Challenger Sao Paulo hosted by the Clube Hipico De Santo Amaro in Sao Paulo. The 23-year-old Brazilian rallied from a set down to overcome Johan Nikles from Switzerland 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-1 in the second round on Wednesday.

Meligeni Rodrigues Alves capitalized on nine of his 12 break-point chances to secure victory in two hours and 17 minutes.

“It was a complicated round, but I managed to advance” said Meligeni Rodrigues Alves. “He (Nikles) is a solid guy who makes you play all the time. In the first set I couldn’t find myself, I had problems with my serve. Then, from the second set onwards, I increased the intensity, was mentally more focused and managed to play well again until the end of the match.”

World No. 209 Meligeni Rodrigues Alves will next take on Argentine Andrea Collarini, who benefited from the retirement of his compatriot Hernan Casanova. Collarini was leading 4-1 in the first set when Casanova was forced to stop playing due to a right adductor injury.

In the bottom half of the draw, No. 5 seed Nicolas Jarry from Chile defeated Pedro Sakamoto from Brazil 6-3, 6-4 to set a quarterfinal clash with second-seeded Bolivian Hugo Dellien. The World No. 119, winner of the Uruguay Open in Montevideo last month, battled past home favourite Daniel Dutra Silva 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. The encounter lasted two hours and six minutes.
