MUNICH, December 13, 2021
The ATP Tour 250 tournament in Munich will have a new name in 2022. Organizers of the prestigious clay-court event announced on Monday that American Express has signed on as presenting sponsor. The BMW Open by American Express will be held at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos from April 23 to May 1.
“We are very pleased with this step and warmly welcome American Express to the now ‘BMW Open by American Express Family’. A great further development for the tournament and our positioning as an absolute world-class event here in Munich,” Stefan Zant, managing director of the organizing agency MMP Event GmbH, stated in a press release.
Meanwhile, World No. 3 and reigning ATP Finals champion Alexander Zverev has signed a two-year contract with the tournament. The 24-year-old German lifted the trophy of the BMW Open in 2017 and 2018.
“I feel very much at home in Munich. It’s a special place for me and I’m already looking forward to competing for my third title in the coming year,” said Zverev.
From now on it’s the BMW Open by American Express! Very proud to welcome #AmericanExpress as our new presenting partner to the Munich family! Looking forward to a fantastic tournament next April and the years to come.
