Seyboth Wild Books Quarterfinal Berth At Rio De Janeiro Tennis Classic

Thiago Seyboth Wild will lead the quarterfinals line-up at the Rio De Janeiro Tennis Classic. The top seed of the $52,080 ATP Challenger Tour hard-court event booked his spot in the stage of the final eight on Wednesday with a hard-fought 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win over Johan Nikles from Switzerland.

Seyboth Wild struck four aces and won 75 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after two hours and 18 minutes. The World No. 131 from Brazil will next oppose the winner of the encounter between Genaro Alberto Oliveiri from Argentina and No. 8 seed Kaichi Uchida of Japan.

In the bottom half of the draw, Nicolas Alvarez Varona eased past Italian youngster Luca Darderi 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and 13 minutes.

The 20-year-old Spaniard will next play US-American lucky loser Roy Smith, who battled past Pedro Sakamoto from Brazil 6-7(8) 6-4, 6-3. The match lasted two hours and 27 minutes.
