Dellien Cruises Into Concepción Challenger Quarterfinal

Hugo Dellien has reached the quarterfinals of the Dove Men & Care Legion Sudamericana Challenger Concepción by losing only two games. Following a 6-0, 6-1 win over Chilean qualifier Cristobal Castro in the opening round, the top seed of the $53,120 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court event cruised past US-American Strong Kirchheimer 6-0, 6-1 on Thursday.

Dellien saved both break points he faced and capitalized on five of his own nine break-point chances to seal victory in 65 minutes. The World No. 114 from Bolivia will next take on Brazilian Pedro Sakamoto, who defeated French alternate Quentin Folliot 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 36 minutes.

Cerundolo to face Rodriguez Taverna

In the bottom half of the draw, Francisco Cerundolo emerged victorious from the all-Argentine affair with alternate Matias Franco Descotte, winning 6-3, 6-4. The No. 4 seed won 79 per cent of his first-service points and broke his rival’s serve three times to prevail after one hour and 24 minutes.

Cerundolo will next face his in-from compatriot Santiago Fa Rodriguez Taverna The 22-year-old from Buenos Aires edged out Nicolas Alvarez from Peru 6-3, 7-6(5) after one hour and 34 minutes. Taverna, who captured his fifth title on the ITF Pro Circuit in Rio Cuarto and lifted his maiden trophy on the Challenger Tour on home soil in Tigre within the last three weeks, extended his winning streak to 12 matches.
