World No. 492 Elizabeth Mandlik has clinched the biggest title of her career by winning the Circuito Dove Men & Care La Legión ITF World Tennis Tour W25 hard-court tournament in Florianopolis, Brazil. The 20-year-old US-American defeated 355th-ranked and seventh-seeded Chilean Barbara Gatica 6-0, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.

Mandlik, daughter of four-time Grand Slam singles champion Hana Mandlikova, booked her spot in the championship match with wins over Beatriz Verdal of Brazil, Moyuka Uchijima from Japan, Russian Maria Bondarenko and Aneta Laboutkova from the Czech Republic. Mandlik won 76 per cent of her first-service points and converted five of her eight break-point chances against Gatica to seal victory in one hour and 27 minutes.

“I really didn’t expect to be champion here. I came here with the aim of improving my game, but it’s definitely a great way to start the season, I’m very happy,” said Mandlik, who captured her fifth career title on the ITF Pro Circuit.
