MUNICH, March 17, 2016
Dominic Thiem leads this year’s entry list of the BMW Open by FWU AG, taking place at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos in Munich from 23 April to 1 May .
The 22-year-old Austrian shooting star is the current world number 13 and is looking forward to the tournament and its familial atmosphere. “The BMW Open is a great tournament and I am happy to be back this year. I hope to see a lot of fans from Austria as well as international spectators,” told Thiem, who already captured the ATP titles in Buenos Aires and Acapulco this year.
With Gael Monfils, David Goffin and Roberto Bautista-Agut, further top 20-players will join Thiem into the tournament’s 101st edition. With Philipp Kohlschreiber and young gun Alexander Zverev, Germany’s best ranked players will also take part.
“The spectators can look forward to an exciting mix of experienced top-players and young guns,” organizer Michael Mronz said.
“If Thiem continues with strong performances, you can expect that he will crack the top 10 by the end of April. Zverev is on a good way to get into the top 30,” tournament director Patrik Kühnen added.
“People in Munich are able to experience the future world stars by now,” Mronz pointed out.
Like every year, the winner will receive a brand new BMW in addition to the prize money. This year’s champion will take away a BMW M4 Cabriolet with an original price of €110,000. The tournament’s total financial commitment will be a record amount of €520,070.
The FWU Group extended the contracts with Gael Monfils, Fabio Fognini and Roberto Bautista-Agut until 2018.
Tickets for the tournament can be bought via the official website.
