TORINO/STARNBERG, March 6, 2022

Mats Moraing of Germany advanced to his first final of the season by reaching the championship match of the inaugural Torino Challenger hosted by the Circolo Della Stampa Sporting in Turin, Italy.

The No. 2 seed of the €45,730 ATP Challenger Tour indoor hard-court tournament defeated third-seeded Canadian Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday. Moraing withstood 12 aces and broke his rival’s serve three times to seal victory in one hour and 15 minutes.

The World No. 150, who captured two Challenger crowns last year, will take on top seed Quentin Halys of France for the title. The 25-year-old from Bondy battled past Jelle Sels from the Netherlands 4-6, 7-6(3), 7-6(0). Halys fired 34 aces and won 85 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after two hours and one minute.

The World No. 120 is seeking his fifth ATP Challenger career title, his second of 2022 after his triumph on home soil at the Teréga Open Pau-Pyrénées last month. Moraing could lift his fourth Challenger career trophy. The 29-year-old German beat Halys in their only previous meeting in Forli, Italy earlier this season.

By winning their fifth team title on the Challenger Circuit, their second of the season after Bendigo in Australia, Bemelmans and Masur split €2,670 in prize money and pocketed 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
