Carlos Taberner and Nuno Borges will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Regione Abruzzo Aterno Gas & Power Cup I, hosted by the Tennis Club Roseto in Roseto Degli Abruzzi.
Taberner, top seed of the €45,730 ATP Challenger clay-court tournament, emerged victorious from the all-Spanish semi-final encounter with qualifier Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo, winning 6-4, 7-5. The World No. 105 from Valencia capitalized on six of his nine break-point opportunities to advance after two hours and 11 minutes.
Later in the day, Borges fought past seventh-seeded Italian Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. The No. 6 seed from Portugal struck five aces and won 75 per cent of his first-service points to seal victory in one hour and 48 minutes.

Taberner is seeking his fifth ATP Challenger career crown, his first of the season. Borges could lift his second Challenger trophy following his maiden triumph in Antalya, Turkey last season. The pair will meet for the first time.
Nys/Zielinski take doubles title
In other action, Hugo Nys of Monaco and Jan Zielinski from Poland earned the doubles title. The top favourites battled past No. 2 seeds Roman Jebavy from the Czech Republic and Austrian Philipp Oswald 7-6(2), 4-6, 10-3. The championship match lasted one hour and 44 minutes.
By winning their first team title, Nys and Zielinski split €2,670 in prize money and pocketed 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
