Fabian Marozsan of Hungary clinched his first title of the season by winning the 12th edition of the Loulé Open, an ITF World Tennis Tour M25 event hosted by the Clube de Ténis de Loulé and organized with the support of the Municipality of Loulé as well as the Portuguese Tennis Federation.

The World No. 364 outlasted No. 3 seed Lucas Miedler of Austria 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-3 in a rain-interrupted singles final on Sunday. The championship match started at Clube de Ténis de Loulé, but due to the rain it had to be relocated to the Vale do Lobo Tennis Academy a few minutes after the start of the decisive set. Marozsan capitalized on nine of his 17 break-point chances to secure victory in one hour and 56 minutes.

“I am very happy. I want to thank the entire organization of the tournament,” said Marozsan, who earned his fifth career title on the ITF Pro Circuit, his first triumph in a 25K event. “I know it wasn’t an easy week because of the rain in the first few days. Regarding today’s match, it wasn’t easy either, because at first it was very windy and then it rained a lot, but I’m very happy that I was able to adapt to the conditions. I think I played better with each match I played and I am very happy.”

Miedler stated: “It was a very difficult week. The rain of the first days didn’t help and today the final was also played in very difficult conditions, but we can’t change the weather. The court change today affected me a lot, because it cooled down and I couldn’t get back into the match, but anyway he played very well and deserved to win.”
