Javier Barranco Cosano of Spain was crowned champion of the Istarska Rivijera in Rovinj. The top seed of the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 clay-court event, part of Croatia’s oldest international tennis tournament series which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, remained untroubled in Sunday’s singles final to beat third favourite Dalibor Svrcina from the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-1.

Barranco Cosano battled his way to the title match through the top half of the draw with wins over Austrians Marko Andrejic and last week’s Porec champion Filip Misolic, as well as Frenchman Emilien Voisin and Cezar Cretu of Romania.

In the first meeting with Svrcina, the World No. 283 sent down three aces, won 69 per cent of his first-service points and broke his rival’s serve six times to secure victory in one hour and four minutes. By lifting his 11th career trophy on the ITF Pro Circuit, his first of the season, Barranco Cosano earned $3,600 in prize money as well as 25 ATP Ranking points. The 23-year-old Almeria native will stay in Croatia to compete in next week’s Zadar Open on the Challenger Tour.
