Molcan Advances To Quarterfinals In Marbella

World No. 65 Alex Molcan leads the quarterfinal line-up of the AnyTech365 Andalucia Open hosted by the the Club de Tenis Puente Romano in Marbella, Spain. The second seed of the ATP Challenger 125 clay-court tournament battled past home favourite Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4) on Thursday afternoon.

Molcan struck four aces on Court 1, broke serve four times and won eight points more than his opponent to secure victory in two hours and four minutes. The 24-year-old Slovakian will next take on No. 4 seed Jaume Munar, who emerged victorious from the all-Spanish encounter with lucky loser Nicolas Alvarez Varona 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 23 minutes.

Cachin to face Kohlschreiber

In the top half of the draw, Pedro Cachin continued his fine run of form on the Costa del Sol. The Argentine alternate, who knocked off top seed Dominic Thiem of Austria in the first round, defeated in-form Frenchman Manuel Guinard, winner of the Regione Abruzzo Aterno Gas & Power Cup II in Roseto, Italy two weeks ago, by the score of 6-4, 6-0.

Cachin was in total control of the encounter, saved both break points he faced and capitalized on four of his own 11 break-point chances to advance after one hour and seven minutes. Up next for the World No. 228 will be German veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber. The 38-year-old Augsburg native rallied past No. 8 seed Carlos Taberner of Spain 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The encounter on Estadio Manolo Santana lasted two hours and 17 minutes.
