TSHWANE, April 1, 2022 (Tennis SA Press Release)
Tournament’s top seed, World No. 152 Tessah Adrianjafitrimo of France has been knocked out of the Tuks International in the quarterfinal round at the hands of British Yuriko Miyazaki.
Miyazaki avenged last year’s W25 Florence loss to Andrianjafitrimo in Tshwane on Friday, overhauling the hard-hitting French 6-3, 6-0 to reach the semi-finals of the ITF World Tennis Tour W60 event being played at the University of Pretoria.
The 23-year-old Andrianjafitrimo was the highest ranked player and tournament favourite at the TuksTennis.
Miyazaki will face unseeded Lina Glushko of Israel on Saturday for a place in the final. Glushko defeated Carole Monnet from France 6-3, 6-1.
Swiss seventh seed Joanne Zuger brushed aside second seed Valeria Savinykh of Russia with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory after two hours and 10 minutes to move into the semi-final round where she faces another Russian – Anastasia Tikhonova. The sixth-seeded Tikhonova eased past Dutch fourth seed Richel Hogenkamp 6-2, 6-3.
