Pedro Martínez Portero continues his winning streak on the Istrian clay court swing, reaching the quarterfinals of the $10,000 ITF Future Istarska Rivijera in Opatija.
The 19-year-old Spaniard, who captured his maiden title on the Pro Circuit in Pula last Sunday, knocked out top-seed Riccardo Bellotti 7-5, 7-6. Martínez Portero capitalized on seven of his 11 break point chances to advance in one hour and 52 minutes. With Pietro Licciardo, the youngster from Valencia will face another Italian in the stage of the final eight. The qualifier battled past Marcin Gawron 1-6, 7-6, 7-6 in two hours and 40 minutes.
Nino Serdarusic emerged victorious from the all-teen-affair with Porec champion Zdenek Kolar. The 19-year-old Croatian wild card won 67% of his first service points and converted four of his seven break points to seal victory in one hour and 11 minutes. Serdarusic will take on fellow countryman Matej Sabanov next. The 23-year-old qualifier ousted Romanian teenager Bogdan Borza, who also came from the qualifying, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 in one hour and 50 minutes.
Second seed Kamil Majchrzak cruised past Swiss qualifier Antoine-Michel Alexeev 6-0, 6-1 in only 40 minutes. The Pole will have a quarterfinals meeting with Croatian qualifier Krsitijan Mesaros. The 27-year-old took out eighth seed Libor Salaba from the Czech Republic in three hours and 14 minutes fight, winning 5-7, 6-3, 7-6.
Vasile Antonescu downed the tournament’s number four Marco Bortolotti 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 in two hours and 42 minutes to set an-all-Romanian-affair in the quarterfinal with seventh seed Drogas Dima, who beat Mircea-Alexandru Jecan 6-1, 6-1 in one hour and 21 minutes.
