ITF Press Release, April 26, 2022

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Kosmos Tennis have today announced that Valencia will be the fourth host city for the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals 2022 group stage – joining Bologna, Glasgow and Hamburg, which were announced as group stage host venues last month.

The event in Valencia will take place at the Pabellón Municipal Fuente de San Luis. All stages of the 2022 Finals will be played on indoor hard courts.

Each group stage host city will host one group of four teams on 14-18 September. The top two teams in each group will advance to the knock-out stage, which will be hosted at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena in Malaga, Spain on 21-27 November.

Valencia has previously played host to the competition on multiple occasions – most recently in 2018, when Spain overcame Germany 3-2 in a quarterfinal tie played on a clay court at the Plaza de Toros de Valencia, with David Ferrer defeating Philipp Kohlschreiber in a decisive fifth match.

In addition to Valencia, Korea and Kazahastan submitted bids to become the fourth venue for the group stage. After being analysed first by the Davis Cup Committee and then by the ITF board, it was decided that the Spanish city presented the best offer to host the competition.

The Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals 2022 Draw

The draw for the 2022 Finals will take place in Malaga on Tuesday 26 April at 13:15 CEST (11:15 GMT). The draw will be streamed live on the Davis Cup YouTube channel.

Croatia, as runners-up in 2021, are seeded No. 1 for this year’s Finals, with Spain, France and USA also seeded based on the latest Davis Cup Nations Ranking.

The 16 nations competing in the 2022 Finals have been placed into four pots. The four seeded nations are in Pot 1, while the remaining 12 nations have been distributed in Pots 2-4 according to the latest Davis Cup Nations Ranking.

One nation from each pot will be drawn into each of the four round-robin groups, with the four host nations placed in different groups.

The top two teams in each group will progress to the knock-out stage of the Davis Cup Finals 2022. The draw for the knock-out stage (which will also take place on Tuesday) will see the four group winners drawn against the four group runners-up in the quarter-finals.
