SAVANNAH/STARNBERG, April 29, 2022

Second-round action at the Savannah Challenger is complete with US-Americans JJ Wolf, Jack Sock, Christian Harrison and Zhizhen Zhang of China rounding out the quarterfinals.

In the first singles match on Thursday, 2018 finalist Harrison took on Canadian Alexis Galarneau. It was the first career meeting between the two and it was a task the American had no problem solving. Harrison advanced to his second consecutive ATP Challenger quarterfinal with a 6-2, 6-3 win after one hour and 28 minutes.

Meanwhile on The Landings Company Court, a three-set battle between No. 6 seed Wolf was brewing with Australian Jason Kubler. Wolf grabbed the first set 6-3, but Kubler was able to take the second set 6-2. In the final set, Wolf was able to get back on track and close out the match with a final score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in one hour and 42 minutes. The 23-year-old Cincinnati native is the only player who can pass Michael Mmoh in the Roland Garros Wild Card Challenge and he must win the title to lock it up.

Next up on The Landings Club Court, 2014 finalist Sock hit the ground running and closed out the first set 6-3 over Sumit Nagal of India. In the second set, Sock got broken early, but he was able to reverse the damage and finish off the secure a 6-3, 6-3 victory in one hour and 21 minutes over the 2019 semifinalist.

Back over on The Landings Company Court, Zhang was looking to reach his third consecutive ATP Challenger quarterfinal as he took on qualifier Govind Nanda from the United States. China’s top-ranked men’s player was able to take the first set 6-4 and carried his momentum into the second to score a 6-4, 6-3 win after one hour and 39 minutes.

Quarterfinal action gets underway on Friday at 11:00 am local time with home favourite Bjorn Fratangelo and Brazilian qualifier Jose Pereira kicking off action. In the featured evening match, No. 1 seeds Luke Saville and John-Patrick Smith from Australia take on Zhizhen Zhang and Tung-lin Wu of Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals of the doubles competition.
