The ATP Challenger Tour will return to Lüdenscheid, Germany next month. The second edition of the Platzmann Sauerland Open will be held from June 26 to July 3.

A special exhibition mixed doubles match is taking place on the final day of the tournament. 2003 Australian Open finalist Rainer Schüttler, former Top 10 star Julia Görges, six-time ATP doubles champion Karsten Braasch and former World No. 79 Dinah Pfizenmaier will step into action.

“As we did last year, we would like to give the spectators the chance to enjoy another entertaining match on Sunday. Last year’s doubles match was a great success and we received a very positive feedback. The mixture of today’s stars competing for the title on the final day and memories of past with some German tennis legends in action is a solid basis for a sold-out last day of the event,” tournament director Rogier Wassen said.

The 45-year-old Dutchman also announced that 17-year-old Moritz Pieper, the current World No. 1,497 of the ITF Juniors Ranking, was awarded a wild card into the qualifying of the €45,730 clay-court tournament. The teenager plays for the local tennis club Lüdenscheider TV 1899.

“I am very happy that an ambitious player like Moritz will have the chance to compete in this year’s tournament,” Wassen stated.

Tickets for the Platzmann Sauerland Open are now on sale and can be bought through the tournament’s official website. 10 per cent of the revenue will be donated to an aid project for the Ukraine.
