Brazilian qualifier Wilson Leite continued his fine run of form this week on home soil by reaching the quarterfinals of the Challenger 80 Dove Men+Care Salvador. The World No. 585 defeated Facundo Juarez of Argentina 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday.

Leite capitalized on six of his 11 break-point chances and won 56 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in one hour and 50 minutes. The 30-year-old Rio de Janeiro native, a winner of six titles on the ITF Pro Circuit, will next take on Joao Domingues. The World No. 389 from Portugal rallied past Nick Hardt from the Dominican Republic 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 after two hours and 32 minutes.

“I came out of qualifying, I’ve been feeling good since the beginning, rocking every match,” Leite said. “Today I started better than yesterday’s game. It got a little complicated in the end, but everything went well.”

Tomas Barrios Vera, the top seed of the $53,120 clay-court event hosted by the Costa Verde Tenis Clube, also booked his spot in the stage of the last eight. The World No. 145 from Chile beat Brazilian wild card Joao Lucas Reis da Silva 6-3, 7-6(1). Barrios Vera broke his rival’s serve six times to prevail after two hours of play.

Up next for the 24-year-old Chillan native will be his compatriot Gonzalo Lama. The No. 8 seed battled past 20-year-old local wild card entry Gustavo Heide 7-6(3), 0-6, 7-6(3) in two hours and 49 minutes, the longest encounter of the day.
