For the second time this season, the ATP Challenger Tour has returned to the Chilean port city of Coquimbo, situated in a valley 10 kilometres south of La Serena, with which it forms Greater La Serena with more than 400,000 inhabitants.
The Dove Men+Care Legión Sudamericana Coquimbo Challenger is being held this week at the Club de Tenis Coquimbo. Three unseeded Argentines made it into the semi-finals led by 316th-ranked Facundo Diaz Acosta, who knocked out World No. 135 and top seed of the $53,120 clay-court event, Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile, 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday.
The 21-year-old Buenos Aires native capitalized on four of his five break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 53 minutes. Diaz Acosta, a winner of three tournaments on the ITF Pro Circuit, is seeking his first ATP Challenger crown and will next take on his compatriot Francisco Comesana. The World No. 332 beat Pol Martin Tiffon of Spain 7-6(4), 6-1 in one hour and 32 minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, Juan Bautista Torres emerged victorious from the all-Argentine affair with No. 3 seed Andrea Collarini, rallying 0-6, 6-4, 6-0. The 20-yaer-old from Buenos Aires won one point less than his rival but secured victory in two hours and 11 minutes.
Up next for Bautista Torres will be Brazilian teenager and wild card entry Pedro Boscardin Dias, who also came back from a set down to outlast Peruvian qualifier Arklon Huertas del Pino Cordova 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. The match lasted two hours and 19 minutes. Boscardin Dias has become the first South American born in 2003 to reach a semi-final on the ATP Challenger Tour.
