World No. 280 Matteo Arnaldi captured his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour by lifting the trophy of the Challenger Francavilla al Mare. The No. 4 seed of the €32,160 clay-court event emerged victorious from the battle of the Italian wild card entries with 19-year-old Francesco Maestrelli, winning 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.

Arnaldi converted eight of his 17 break-point chances and won 54 per cent of the total point played to prevail after almost three hours of play. Following two triumphs on the ITF World Tennis Tour last year, the 21-year-old Sanremo native earned his first Challenger crown.
