VICENZA/STARNBERG, May 26, 2022
The top two seeds of the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Vicenza have booked their spots in the quarterfinal of the €45,730 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court event. Gianluca Mager defeated fellow Italian Ricardo Bonadio 7-5, 6-2 on Wednesday.
The No. 1 seed was rock solid during his own service games. Mager struck nine aces, won 80 per cent of his first-service points and saved all five break points he faced to secure victory in one hour and 26 minutes. Next up for the World No. 115 from Sanremo will be Andrea Pellegrino. The 25-year-old emerged victorious from the all-Italian affair with qualifier Giovanni Fonio, 7-6(8), 6-3. World No. 222 Pellegrino, who clinched his maiden Challenger title in Rome last year and entered the main draw as an alternate, capitalized on two of his three break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 45 minutes.
In the bottom half of the draw, second-seeded Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo eased past 20-year-old Italian Luciano Darderi 6-4, 6-1 in one hour and 38 minutes and will next oppose his compatriot Andrea Collarini. The 21-year-old defeated fellow Argentine and qualifier Francesco Comesana 6-2, 6-2. The encounter lasted 70 minutes.
Meanwhile in Vicenza, the doubles team of 🇷🇺 Yan Bondarevskiy & 🇺🇦 Oleg Prihodko win their opening match of the ATP Challenger Tour 80 tournament in Italy. #ATPChallenger #Vicenza
